The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan Percutaneous Coronary Interventions Collaborative (BMC2 PCI)

The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Cardiovascular Consortium Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Quality Improvement Initiative (BMC2 PCI) is a prospective, multicenter registry that represents a regional collaborative effort to assess and improve quality of care and outcomes of patients with coronary disease undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention. The registry has collected information for more than 500,000 interventional cases since its inception in year 1997, from 33 participating PCI hospitals and an additional 15 Primary PCI Hospitals that participate with BMC2 at the request of the State of Michigan Certificate of Need Commission.

• Evaluate evidence-based disease management in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary interventions
• Identify opportunities for quality improvement

Specific numeric objectives for BMC2-PCI

• Reduce vascular access complications to a rate of < 1.5%
• Reduce the post PCI transfusion rate to < 2.5%
• Reduce the rate of contrast induced nephropathy to < 3%
• Reduce nephropathy requiring dialysis to < 0.4%
• Increase rate of referral for cardiac rehabilitation to ≥ 90%
• Pre-procedure Aspirin > 99%
• Reduce the rate of contrast volume to glomerular filtration rate (GFR) ratios over ≥ 3 to ≤ 20%
